Motivation to Teach Social Action:
I believe being an exceptional nurse requires nurses to advocate for their patients and communities far beyond the bedside. Therefore, it is my goal to help our future nurses realize that social engagement is a form of ultimate patient advocacy. I believe this program can help me better incorporate this concept into my nursing courses.
Course Description:
I plan to incorporate social action into my existing Perinatal Nursing course. This course provides a foundation of nursing knowledge for family-centered care for the childbearing woman and the newborn. This includes women’s health throughout the lifespan, pregnancy, labor and birth, the postpartum period, the newborn, childbearing at risk, and the newborn at risk. Perinatal nursing theory and clinical provide a foundation of nursing knowledge for family-centered care in all phases of the perinatal period.
I also plan to incorporate social action into a course that I have proposed to teach entitled Women's Health. This course, aimed at non-nursing majors, will provide a foundational knowledge of women's health and issues facing women's health outcomes. This course will focus on health promotion and discusses both local and international issues specific to women's health.
